How Your Support Is Helping Us Win
Like most Democratic county parties, Polk Dems receive no funding from the state or national party. Every contribution we get from our team at We Stand Together makes a difference. The specific expenses you help us with include:
- Paying the rent on our HQ
- Printing and mailing of thousands of absentee ballot request form
- Printing and mailing of sample ballots – a key voter education tool
- Mailing postcards to the thousands of Dem and Independent voters who live in housing complexes our door-knockers cannot enter.
- Lawn signs for our down-ballot candidates
Being a local volunteer for the Democratic Party is hard work, and our volunteers sacrifice a lot of time they could be spending with their family and friends. It’s just not right to ask them for money, too. Every dollar raised by our We Stand Together team is a dollar we do not have to give or raise ourselves. That makes a huge difference not just to our effectiveness but to our morale. We are lifted up when know that our fellow Democrats from across the country respect our work and stand here with us. Welcome to Polk County!
Lots of folks assume that Iowa is all red and rural. Not true! Obama won the state in 2008 and 2012, and Democrats took 3 out of 4 Congressional Districts in 2018. The key to winning elections here is to mobilize huge voter turnouts in the urban Democratic strongholds. With a big enough margin there, we can win whole districts and even the state. This is what we plan to do in 2026!
Already all our volunteers and Community Groups are hard at work on the crucial 2026 elections, super energized by the fact that we have an excellent chance of flipping the Third Congressional District. We have a terrific candidate in State Senator Sarah Trone Garriott, and with your help, we are going to help Sarah take back this seat, a key step in helping our party to the House Majority!
In addition, 2026 offers an opportunity Iowa Democrats haven’t had since 1968 both the Governorship and a U.S. Senate seat are open in the same election year, and polls are showing that Democrats have realistic chances at winning both!
